Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account on Battlechron you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. You may not create accounts for other people without their consent, and each person may only operate one active account at a time.

You can update your email address from Settings. For your protection, an email change requires confirming via links sent to both your current address and the new address — both must be clicked before the change takes effect.

User-Generated Content

Content you post on Battlechron remains yours. This includes:

  • Game narratives, dispatches, and war-report text
  • Army lists, detachments, and faction choices
  • Campaign names, hex labels, and custom hex option palettes
  • Tournament names and descriptions
  • Looking-for-Game posts
  • Custom campaign map images (supporter feature)
  • Game moment images attached to your battle reports (supporter feature, up to three per game)
  • External links you attach to games (for example, video battle-report URLs)

By posting content on Battlechron you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display that content within the app (for example, on the war feed, leaderboards, campaign pages, and tournament pages) for as long as the content remains on the site. You represent that you have the right to post any content you submit, including external URLs and uploaded images, and that the content does not infringe any third party’s rights.

You can delete most of your content by editing or removing the parent record (e.g., clearing a battle report URL, deleting a campaign you own) or by deleting your account (see Account Termination below).

External Links

Battlechron lets players attach external links to games — typically video battle reports hosted on YouTube, Twitch, or similar platforms. You are solely responsible for any link you post and its destination content. Battlechron does not control, review, endorse, or take responsibility for third-party sites, and a link’s presence on the site is not an endorsement.

Any user may report a link they believe is misleading, phishing, offensive, spam, or otherwise harmful. Admins review reports and may remove a link at their discretion. Repeated abuse of the reporting system, or repeated posting of removed links, may result in account suspension.

Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Submit fraudulent game results, confirm games that did not happen, or otherwise manipulate ELO ratings
  • Collude with other players to artificially inflate or deflate rankings, win streaks, or tournament standings
  • Impersonate other users or real persons
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Post offensive, hateful, or illegal content in narratives, army lists, campaign names, hex labels, or any other user-facing field
  • Post external links to phishing, malware, offensive, or otherwise harmful destinations
  • Upload images you do not have the right to use, or that contain offensive or illegal content
  • Attempt to access other users’ accounts, private data, or restricted administrative functions
  • Use automated tools to scrape data, submit games in bulk, or abuse the consent or reporting systems
  • Verify a phone number that is not yours or that you are not authorized to use, or share a verified phone across multiple accounts to circumvent the one-account- per-number rule

Moderation Authority

Battlechron administrators may, to enforce these terms or protect the community:

  • Suspend or permanently ban accounts
  • Edit, invalidate, or remove game results during dispute resolution
  • Grant or revoke the Tournament Organizer role
  • Grant or revoke the supporter tier (for example, as a gift, a correction, or following abuse)
  • Remove external links attached to games
  • Remove uploaded images (supporter game moments or campaign maps) that violate these terms or are the subject of a valid community report
  • Remove or edit any user-generated content that violates these terms

Admin actions are recorded in an internal audit log accessible only to administrators. Where appropriate, the affected user is told what happened and why, but the audit log itself is not user-facing.

Any logged-in user may report an image or external link they believe violates these terms. Repeatedly filing false or abusive reports is itself grounds for moderation.

Tournament Organizers

Any user may apply to become a Tournament Organizer (“TO”). Battlechron reviews applications and may approve, reject, or later revoke TO status. Approved TOs may create tournaments, manage pairings and rounds, and have their reported results count as verified without opponent confirmation.

TOs are expected to run their tournaments fairly and in good faith. Rulings made by a TO within their own tournament are authoritative for that event, but remain subject to Battlechron’s site-wide terms and to override by administrators where needed. Abuse of the TO role — including biased pairings, false results, or harassment — is grounds for revocation.

Verified Games & Phone Verification

Battlechron’s ranked “Verified Games” track — games that feed ELO ratings, leaderboards, and approved-campaign contributions — requires a verified phone number on bothplayers’ accounts. This applies to:

  • The player logging a verified game (the submitter)
  • The opponent confirming or disputing a pending verified game — confirming requires a verified phone; disputes remain open to all accounts

Phone verification is a one-time step handled in Settings via an SMS code. We use Twilio for delivery (see our Privacy Policy for the data shared). You can add or remove your verified phone at any time; removing it reverts you to casual-only logging until you re-verify.

Casual games, casual games with any campaign not approved for the verified track, and the dispute path on a pending verified game are not gated — any account can log casual games and raise disputes.

Phone verification exists solely to raise the cost of throwaway accounts manipulating ratings. We do not use your phone number for marketing, support outreach, or any purpose other than verifying you and confirming you can receive SMS.

When a ladder season is active, your verified-game results feed both the current season’s standings and the all-time ladder. Admins publish intent to roll over a season at least three months in advance; exact close timing is at admin discretion based on community activity. Past seasons are archived in static, read-only form.

Supporter Tier & Billing

Battlechron offers an optional supporter tier that unlocks cosmetic and creator features (for example, custom campaign map image uploads, game moment image uploads, and manual hex placement). Supporter status is activated by linking a Patreon account that is an active member of the Battlechron Patreon campaign at a qualifying tier.

  • Billing— all payments are handled by Patreon, not by Battlechron. You are subject to Patreon’s terms and payment policies for your pledge.
  • Cancellation and refunds— cancel via your Patreon account. Refunds, if any, are at Patreon’s discretion under their policies. Battlechron does not issue refunds directly.
  • Grace period — if a Patreon charge fails, supporter features stay unlocked for a short grace period (currently 3 days) to absorb billing retries. After that period, your account reverts to the free tier until the pledge is restored.
  • Feature set — the supporter feature list may change over time as we add, retire, or reshape perks. A change to the feature list does not entitle you to a refund.
  • Your free data is safe — losing supporter status does not delete anything you created (custom maps, manual-placement hex maps, etc.). Some supporter-only actions (e.g., uploading a new map image or switching a map back to manual placement) require an active supporter tier to perform.

Account Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or permanently ban accounts that violate these terms. You can delete your own account at any time from Settings. When an account is deleted, personal data is removed as described in our Privacy Policy. In short: games where you were the submitter are deleted entirely (which removes them from your opponents’ records as well); games where you were the opponent remain on the submitter’s record with your reference removed; tournament participation, campaign memberships, ELO ratings, and groups you owned are deleted; authored content like war-feed entries stays but is no longer attributed to you. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Service Availability

Battlechron is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do our best to keep the service running but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. Changes to features — including supporter features — do not entitle you to a refund.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Battlechron and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, loss of ELO ratings, tournament results, supporter features, or interruption of service. Battlechron is likewise not liable for content hosted on third-party sites linked from the service.

Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age required by your local law, such as 16 in parts of the EU) to use Battlechron. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this requirement.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of Battlechron after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Privacy

Your use of Battlechron is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data.

Copyright

Battlechron respects intellectual property rights and expects users to do the same. If you believe content on the site infringes a copyright you own or control, send a written notice to team@battlechron.com including: (a) identification of the copyrighted work, (b) the URL or other location of the allegedly infringing material on Battlechron, (c) your contact information, (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized, and (e) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf. We will review valid notices and remove or disable access to infringing material where appropriate. Repeat infringers may have their accounts terminated.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Battlechron shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
